Oswin Delano Petrus

Mr. Oswin Delano Petrus, 81, of Southern Pines, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in Southern Pines, North Carolina.  

Friendly and carefree are the words that best describe our beloved, Oswin Delano Petrus. He was born on the beautiful island of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, to the late Eldred and Olga Petrus.

Seven of his siblings, Phyllis, Clement, Raymond, Maxine, Wayne, Ted, and Terrence, preceded him in death.

Oswin received his formal education in St. Thomas and left high school to pursue employment to assist his family. He was employed for many years in the culinary department of Blue Beard’s Castle Hotel. Oswin was an avid sports enthusiast and loved golf tournaments, baseball, and football games. His passion for golf led him to relocate to Pinehurst, North Carolina over  thirty plus years ago seeking employment at the Pinehurst Resort.

While residing in North Carolina, “Pedro,” as he was referred to by his friends, fathered one daughter, the late Kimberly Ross, who gave him two grandchildren, Francisco Renquel Lopez and Alysah Bahamonde. He became a great-grandfather last year when baby Alijah arrived. Our family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to “Pedro’s” friends who cared for and  assisted him while he resided in North Carolina. These friends include Elder Robert Jackson, Ms. Bessie Mae Brown, Ms. Martha Dickerson, and Mr. Edwin “Sweet Pea” Dickerson. May the Lord abundantly bless every one of you.

Oswin leaves to cherish his fond memories two grandchildren, Francisco Renquel Lopez of Southern Pines, NC and Alysah Bahamonde of Manassas, VA; one great grandson, baby Alijah Lopez; His surviving siblings, two brothers, Vincent Petrus and Andre Petrus; four sisters, Unah Turnbull, Doreen Petrus, Greta Williams, and Marva Mercer; many nieces, nephews, and other family  members and friends in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

We will surely miss our dear brother; rest Peacefully Until We Meet Again.
