Steve G. Coney

Mr. Steve G. Coney, 65, of West End, North Carolina entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care in West End, North Carolina.

Steve Gerard Coney was born in St. Joseph Hospital in 1958. to Gertie M. Dailey and Otis Verbal.

As a child, Coney loved all sports and took up football and basketball during his school years. Coney was a die-hard UNC fan and a Cowboys fan.

Coney lived in New York City, New Jersey, and settled in North Carolina with his grandmother. Steve had a love for learning and loved to have debates on sports topics, politics, history, or  anything he found interesting. He loved spilling knowledge into his nieces and nephews and always enjoyed the company of his family and friends. In Coney’s later years it was nothing to find him sitting outside under the tent with company surrounding him in the back yard. People never hesitated to surround him. If the conversation got heated, we would walk away just to do it all again the very next day. Coney would talk for hours until he got his point across. We will truly miss his conversations. Steve had simple pleasures such as cooking his favorite meal of spaghetti, trying new  recipes, reading his newspapers, and helping his mother start her garden. Coney had an uncanny way of reaching people that knew him. We are all thankful for the memories and time we had  with Coney.

We will all miss Coney’s witty presence as he leaves behind his mother, Gertie Dailey; his siblings, Alan Dailey, Elizabeth “Libby” Dailey-Hill (Wendell), and Maria Montalvo; an aunt, Betty Chavis;  twelve nieces and nephews; a special nephew, Patrick McKinney; Kenya Hannah, whom he loved as a daughter; and host of friends and close relatives who will surely miss him.
